Prior to joing the European Union, Austria minted this coin in "schillings". Now, it is minted in Euros. The Philharmonic comes in 1 oz; 1/2 oz; 1/4 oz and 1/10th oz. It is .999 fine gold which makes it "softer" and it needs to be individually protected against defacement or scratching.

It is "legal tender" currency but the mint sells it to private investors for its gold content. Not its nominal face value.

Because it is "legal-tender" it is also an attractive IRA and other retirement investment. To Learn More:

Very beautiful! But you really need to be extra careful with pure gold because they can be easily scratched or damaged.

The Austrian Philharmonics looks really good. Gold IRA is one of the best plans for your post retirement investment. But it is also important to select the right place for your gold IRA plans.
