Prior to joing the European Union, Austria minted this coin in "schillings". Now, it is minted in Euros. The Philharmonic comes in 1 oz; 1/2 oz; 1/4 oz and 1/10th oz. It is .999 fine gold which makes it "softer" and it needs to be individually protected against defacement or scratching.

It is "legal tender" currency but the mint sells it to private investors for its gold content. Not its nominal face value.
